GENERAL INFORMATION

  • ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT
    • Child Safety Restraint Systems (car seats) are required by Texas law to be used by students younger than 4 years old OR less than 36 inches in height.   Only car seats that are provided by the North East ISD will be utilized. It is unsafe for students weighing more than 40 pounds to use car seats in the school bus.  Booster seats for children weighing over 40 pounds require a three-point shoulder harness, which is not available on school buses.
    • A Safety Vest is recommended for students who weigh more than 40 pounds, yet do not have the upper body control to be safely supported by the bus seat and a lap belt.  Please contact the Special Needs Office at 657-8815 if you are interested in a safety vest.
    • Climate Controlled buses are only provided to students that have a documented medical need.  A prescription stating the medical necessity of a climate control requirement from your child's primary physician is required. Please contact the Special Needs Transportation Office to request a blank form.  Each request will be reviewed by the Director of Health Services.  The paperwork must be updated by the child's physician annually.
    • Lift Equipped Buses transport student's and their mobility equipment.  All wheelchairs will be secured in a forward facing position.  The wheelchairs will be anchored to the bus floor and the lap tray will be removed and properly stowed prior to transport.
  • POLICIES / PROCEDURES
    • All Routing Changes (including changes in pick-up or drop-off location) are to be initiated at the child's campus. Changes in service will take up to three days for implementation.
    • Access to Gated Communities will be through the use of a remote control or a universal code. A code that contacts the residence is not acceptable.
