SUPERVISION OF EVENTS |
Providing administrative supervision/coverage at all extracurricular and cocurricular events shall be the responsibility of the principal. The following guidelines define the minimum level of acceptable supervision. An administrator from the school should be assigned for supervisory purposes at the following activities: 1. all varsity level athletic competitions and contests, regardless whether your school's team is the home team or visiting team; 2. all sub-varsity athletic competitions or contests on the home campus; 3. any sub-varsity competitions or contests off-campus where the principal is concerned about safety, order, or control; 4. all major academic contests on the home campus; 5. all parent organization meetings (PTA and booster clubs); 6. all concerts, drama productions, musicals, dance productions, and speech tournaments; 7. major student organization induction ceremonies (NHS, National Spanish Honor Society, etc.); 8. major banquets (student council, athletic, NHS, etc.); and 9. major tryout sessions (cheerleader, dance team, etc.) |

CLASSROOM SUPERVISION |
Supervision by members of the instructional staff is required for all students while in classrooms or in campus facilities. Without such supervision, students are not permitted to occupy school rooms at any time, or to make use of playgrounds during school hours. Teachers are responsible for establishing safety guidelines specific to their instructional program and enforce all applicable safety rules. Safety should be incorporated in the instructional program. Proper supervision is required in areas where students operate mechanical equipment, handle chemicals, or have special needs or exposures. Specific application to individual athletic activities should also be made by school administrators, coaches, and students. |

PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION |
To ensure safety of all students, constant supervision is neces-sary on the playgrounds. Administrators are responsible for the implementation of a safe and effective play environment for the students. Teachers are required to physically locate themselves in strategic locations to actively monitor and provide full attention to all playground activities. A daily inspection of the playground and equipment must be conducted in addition to a thorough weekly inspection by custodial staff. All students should receive instruc-tion in the safe and correct use of playgrounds at the beginning of and continuing through the school year. Students will be relocated to other areas when a play area is being serviced by District owned vehicles, or other approved contractors' and workmen's vehicles. Under no circumstances should equip-ment such as lawnmowers, construction equipment, maintenance equipment, etc., be operated in the vicinity of children. |

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SUPERVISION |
Each principal shall arrange to take care of students arriving early on rainy days or in bad weather. Students shall be admitted to the building under supervision. Likewise, students who wait for their parents in the afternoon shall be supervised. |

PARKING AREAS |
School officials shall impose reasonable regulations upon the use of students' private vehicles during regular school hours when vehicles are used for the express purpose of transportation to and from school. Regulations must be designed to assure proper and safe usage of the parking lots. The regulations should include: 1. registering vehicles; 2. posting speed limits; 3. establishing traffic regulatory provisions; 4. enforcing all traffic laws, including the use of seat belts; 5. issuing parking permits 6. declaring hours that the parking lot will be opened and closed; 7. providing proof of insurance; and 8. restricting the use of the parking lot. |
