The procedures outlined in North East Board Policy FDD (LOCAL) shall be strictly followed in order that the requirements of the State law are met.

ATTENDANCE COMMITTEE

The principal will appoint the attendance committee. The attend-ance committee may be a standing committee or one where the makeup of the committee changes with each student appeal.

Each standing attendance committee is to be trained by the principal or designee at the beginning of the school year. If the principal elects to use multiple committees with each student, the training shall occur before each individual appeal is heard.

CONDITIONS FOR AWARDING CREDIT

Students will be allowed to make up absences by attending Sat-urday School and/or make up time after school hours (individual school option), if approved by the assistant principal or by the attendance committee in the case of an appeal scenario.

APPEAL PROCESS

The attendance appeal process and related credit process is to be communicated to the faculty within the first two weeks of the school year. The initial appeal must be written to the assistant principal no later than the second Friday before the end of the semester in which the absences are accrued. The principal must approve any exception to this date.
