BUS TRANSPORTATION

School buses may be purchased, operated, housed, and maintained by the District for the transportation of eligible resident students between their homes and schools located within the District. All operations shall be in accordance with state and local regulations.

Bus transportation shall be established on the basis of a two-mile distance from home to school and in compliance with state regulations declaring students eligible for reimbursement. The two-mile distance does not apply to special education students.

Use of school buses for transportation other than to and from school must be approved by the Superintendent.

The Board shall authorize the Superintendent to establish and operate an adequate transportation system.

SCHEDULING AND ROUTING

School buses shall be operated to and from school on routes approved by TEA, or the Superintendent or designee.

Services for handicapped students may include transportation from the studentís home to school and return home. When the student is picked up at or delivered to a different address, a request must be made in writing and be kept on file.

All bus routes and transportation systems are subject to review by the commissioner of education.
