BUILDING CHECKS

The Superintendent or designee shall ensure that buildings are inspected regularly. 

KEY

Access to school buildings and grounds after regular school hours shall be limited to personnel whose work requires it. An adequate key control system, which will limit access to authorized personnel and will safeguard against the potential of entrance to buildings by unauthorized persons, shall be developed by the Superintendent. 

DAMAGE REPORT

Damage of any nature to school property, whether willful or otherwise, shall be reported upon detection to the principal, who shall then report to the Superintendent. The name(s) of the person or persons responsible will be submitted if known. Any break-ins shall be reported without delay to the principal whether damage is noted or not. Care shall be taken to avoid disturbing fingerprints and other evidence. Refer to CLD(R) for reporting procedures for break-ins or damage to school property.

TELEPHONE HOTLINE

The District maintains a telephone hotline 655-CARE for use in reporting vandalism on school property. This number should be utilized to report criminal activities happening on school property in the areas of drug and alcohol abuse, weapons at school, assault or extortion of a student by another student and suspicious loitering on campus.

STUDENT COOPERATION

Students are expected to cooperate in the care of buildings and equipment. Teachers and principals shall ensure that buildings and furniture are not abused. Students who abuse buildings or equipment may be disciplined and required to pay for the damage incurred. Students that check out District equipment, such as band instruments, must fill out a custody form that explains the responsibilities of the student.

CENTRAL OFFICE CLASSIFIED PERSONNEL

Classified personnel desiring to work on a holiday will obtain written permission from their immediate supervisor who will notify the security dispatcher in Annex 1. A security officer will open the building and will be called to turn on the alarm system when the employee leaves the building.

 

CONTRACT SECURITY PATROLMEN

Requests for extra, or special contract security patrolmen must be approved in advance by the associate superintendent of operations. Invoices for services not approved in advance will be returned to the school for payment. Secondary schools shall pay for their own security guard(s) for athletic events from gate receipts. Any requests for additional or special contract security patrolmen must be coordinated through the supervisor of security, and energy management.

 

SECURING DISTRICT-OWNED EQUIPMENT

All district employees are required to adequately ensure the security of District equipment. All high value or high risk District-owned equipment, such as computers and computer related peripherals, audio/visual equipment, vocational equipment, typewriters, etc., will be tracked through the Controlled Resource Management System (CRMS). All employees are responsible to continuously maintain the accuracy of the CRMS. Failure to follow CRMS requirements may result in disciplinary action up and including loss of employment. Procedures for the proper use of CRMS will be maintained on the intranet.

MARKING DISTRICT –OWNED EQUIPMENT

All computers and computer related peripherals (including digital cameras and camcorders) will be marked with a NEISD ID Tag. All other District equipment tracked through the CRMS will have the item’s make and serial number recorded in the CRMS. Items that do not have a serial number will be marked with an identifying mark with an electric engraver or an indelible stencil. Any equipment with a high loss ratio not marked for easy identification will not be replaced with central office District funds if stolen.

SUMMER STORAGE

To properly ensure protection from theft during the summer months, all high risk items must be stored in rooms secured with an alarm system or other means.

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Employees who bring personal property to the worksite do so at their own risk. The district assumes no responsibility for indemnification for loss of property under any circumstances.
