Katrina De La Cruz, editor of Krueger Middle School's Falcon Express newspaper, had a feature article published in the Sports Rocketry Magazine July/August issue. "Katrina is a gifted writer and great reporter," said Brenda Marafioto, iMAK journalism teacher. "She really worked hard to take the articles she wrote for the newspaper and transition them into an outstanding piece for Sports Rocketry Magazine." De La Cruz developed her feature article for the magazine by compiling her school newspaper articles about the Krueger School of Applied Technologies (KSAT) Student Launch Initiative. "I liked being able to work with the KSAT students; they were really doing some awesome things," said De La Cruz. "Before coming to iMAK, I had never written any kind of article, and now I am being published. I was totally ecstatic when I found out I got published--I was screaming." The Student Launch Initiative was a group of eighth-grade KSAT students who were invited by NASA to participate in a rocket launch at the Marshall Space Flight Center. De La Cruz covered the Student Launch Initiative from proposal to launch. "Katrina is a very thorough reporter," said Tracy Thomas, KSAT aerospace teacher and Student Launch Initiative sponsor. "She takes pride in her work and makes sure to cover all aspects of the story." |
