In an effort to reduce “first day” jitters, West Avenue Elementary welcomed new and returning students with a musical celebration on the first day of school. The Lee High School drum line played in front of the school as students were dropped off by buses and their parents. Students and parents walking in the front door were greeted by staff and directed to the cafeteria.

Inside the cafeteria, a jazz band led by West Avenue music teacher Mark Hill performed for the students. Other special guests included the Lee ROTC drill team and H-E-Buddy.

It was a great success because the school staff and administration feel efforts like these help create a sense of community and make the school a welcoming environment for its families.
