Tejeda enlists Special OPS, promote reading and build relationships
|
Tejeda Middle School created the Special OPS program through a collaboration with seventh-grade reading students and Special Education students. The slogan of the group is: "A different world is not made by indifferent people." The purpose of the program is to give seventh-grade students an opportunity to participate in sharing their reading interest with others; in this case, the Special Education students. The majority of the students from the participating classes, see this as a chance to participate with other Tejeda students without having to be part of a formal group. Eight Special OPS students assisted with the Special Olympics meet held on April 15; along with Tejeda PALS. Trent, a Tejeda seventh-grader participating in program, said the best part of helping at Special Olympics was, "making new friends, meeting people, teaching others and helping others." The Special OPS partnered to provide motivation and assist in getting Special Education students to the right events on time. According to Tejeda Special Education teacher Debra Navarro-Matull, the Special OPS students received special invitation to attend the meet, and hopes this will start a new tradition. |
