Tejeda students awarded by The Sons of the Republic of Texas

Five Tejeda Middle School students were awarded various awards at Alamo Plaza on April 19 by The Sons of the Republic of Texas. The Sons of the Republic of Texas developed a contest that eight Tejeda students participated in. The contest consisted of a 300 word essay, poster board, timeline and photos of Ben Milam. Milam was a true hero of the Battle of Bexar in San Antonio in 1835 and was one of the first to die there. This was one of the first battles that will eventually lead to the Battle of the Alamo in Texas' pursuit of independence.

The winners were:
First place - Manuel de la Garza, he received a $200 savings bond, certificate and a Texas flag that flew over the Alamo on March 6, 2008.

Second place - Jason Chen, he received a $150 savings bond and a certificate.

Third place - Tyler Wilson, he received a $100 savings bond and a certificate.

Honorable mention:
Likhita Kaza and Madison Gordon; each received a certificate.
