NEISD students earn Tim Duncan Character Award

Several North East ISD students have earned Tim Duncan Character Awards by the Tim Duncan Foundation for their outstanding character traits.

Redland Oaks students earning Tim Duncan Character Awards were Jenna Johnson, a fifth-grader in Jana Johnson's class; Natalie James, a fourth-grader in Jenness Davidson's class; Kyle Benson, a fourth-grader in Mrs. Davidson's class; and David Wilcox, a first-grader in Christy Taylor's class.

"Jenna is known for being a very dependable young lady," said Dr. Mary Longloy, principal. "She always knows what needs to be done and does it without being asked to do so. She helps other students whenever she has the opportunity to do so, she has excellent conduct, and is extremely respectful to adults and fellow students.  Her teacher says that she can always count on Jenna to do the right thing."

"Natalie is a wonderful girl with a spunky personality," said Dr. Mary Longloy, principal. "She is an enthusiastic learner and hard worker. She has demonstrated leadership ability by focusing and engaging special education students in group activities. She is helpful and courteous. Her teacher says that she is known for being someone that always can be depended upon to "get the job done". Thank you Jenna and Natalie for representing the student body of Redland Oaks with such character!"

"Kyle is a dependable student who aims to please," said Taylor. "His achievement is outstanding due to the hard work he puts forth.  He is self confident and a born leader, as seen through his effort on the student council.  Kyle is well liked by his peers and has a great sense of humor."

"David Wilcox is a most charming boy with a terrific smile!" said Davidson. "He is always happy and willing to help others. He is a good friend and looks to include everyone. He is a joy to have in class."

Thousand Oaks Elementary second-graders Marco Baeza and Betsy Sullivan also recently won Tim Duncan Character Awards. Counselor Courtney Storment acknowledged their outstanding achievement on the school's morning televised announcements and presented them with their winnings.

"Marco is a positive child who respects others and is courteous with his classmates," said Lisa Bachhofer, second-grade teacher. "He always has an enthusiastic outlook that everything will turn out for the best."

"Betsy is a very compassionate child who has feelings for other's needs and helps others without expecting anything in return," said Bachhofer. "She has a strong determination to continue on regardless of any circumstances. Way to go Marco and Betsy!"

Five Camelot Elementary students were also awarded the Tim Duncan Character Award. The students were Alex Sanchez, Larissa Vasquez, Cecilia Ledesma, Gabby Castro-Gonzales and Derek Brown. "I am so proud of these and all of my students!" said Jennifer Smith, third-grade teacher.

The Tim Duncan Character Award was presented to 3000 students throughout San Antonio. Each received free Spurs tickets and a Tim Duncan Character Award t-shirt.
