Redland Oaks opens with 'class'

Redland Oaks Elementary opened its doors for the 2008-2009 school year with a successful Open House and orientation. Students met their new teachers, and families shared news of their summer activities. The first day of school was marked with the traditional Flag Raising Ceremony and "Coffee & Kleenex" for the new pre-kindergarten and kindergarten parents. Students settled into putting their new school supplies away and learning about their new classroom.

Teacher retirements from last spring provided opportunities for six new teachers to join the faculty of Redland Oaks. Recently, the staff welcomed Jennifer Brooks (kindergarten), Eleanor Rodriguez (Resource Teacher), Haley Schmidt (third-grade), Denise Trejo (fourth-grade), Kelly McReynolds (fourth-grade) and Leslie Gallardo (fifth-grade) to campus. "As the staff of Redland Oaks greeted the children and launched a new academic year, we were pleased to offer each child excellent learning opportunities through our highly qualified staff," said Dr. Mary Longloy, principal. "Let the year begin!"

The 2008–2009 school year will once again prove to be eventful for Redland Oaks, and the school has already scheduled several events for September and October.

Sept. 5:  PTA fundraiser kickoff
Sept. 19:  PTA fundraiser ends
Sept. 29:  Bike Rodeo Bike Safety presentation at 1:30 p.m.
Sept. 30 – Oct. 2: Elementary early release day for parent conferences
Oct. 3:  Bike Rodeo 8-11 a.m.
Oct. 10: Individual pictures

Parents are invited to these events, as well as to have lunch with their child(ren). "We look forward to another great year of school-parent-community partnership for the benefit of our children," said Longloy. "Come visit Redland Oaks!"
