|
Two Oak Meadow Elementary School students were winners in the citywide 2008 Immunization Calendar Contest sponsored by the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. Second-grader Isabella Rucinski and first-grader Elizabeth Spencer were honored on Friday, April 11 at an awards ceremony held at the Health Department in downtown San Antonio. Rucinski's artwork depicts a kangaroo giving his kangaroo friend a shot with the caption: "Don't be scared!" Spencer's entry carried the theme "Growing Up Healthy and Strong Thanks to Shots." The calendar serves as an outreach tool for educating parents, health care professionals and the community at large regarding the importance of timely immunizations. Artwork, by students from grades K-12, was selected based on originality, use of imagination, creativity and selection of a clear immunization message. |
