Harris students make top ten in Founder's Day contest

Two Harris Middle School students, Melissa Thompson and Zachary Odom, placed in the San Antonio Founder's Day Competition. The student's essays placed in the top ten out of more than 80 eligible entries. To enter, the students were asked to write an essay or create a poster showing the visual impact of a cultural group on San Antonio.

The San Antonio Founder's Day competition is designed to promote history and heritage through reading and the visual arts. Students in sixth- through twelfth-grades and attending schools in San Antonio are eligible to enter the contest in either the essay or visual arts category. Contest winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Alamo Community College District to attend a community college of their choice. The University of Incarnate Word will also award seven $1,000 scholarships to winners of the visual arts contest.
