History is brought to life at campuses

Fifth-grade students at Encino Park Elementary brought history to life with "Come Alive Theater" by portraying famous historical figures that have impacted the world. The event provided "real-life" characters, portrayed by students, re-telling their life story. Each student did independent research on the historical figure they would portray and then wrote a biography on him or her. The students collected enough factual information on their person that they could carry on a character conversation with adults and other Encino Park students that visited their stations. "It took a lot of work to make this event a huge success," said Drew Hall, Gifted/Talented teacher. This is a great way for students to learn about famous people in history, as well as have a cherished memory from their fifth grade year." The Garner Middle School drama department presented a Living Museum for English and history classes. The advanced drama students researched literary and historical figures, prepared monologues and created exhibits. Each designed a background for their exhibit and a costume to wear. For two days the students performed their monologues about 25 times each day to about 100 students. "The project was a success and rewarding experience for all," said Tammy Kai Frazier, Theatre Arts teacher.
