Cooking bullies, Eisenhower student publishes book

McKenna Louise Little, a seventh-grader at Eisenhower Middle School, published a book entitled "How to C.O.O.K. a Bully." The book describes four simple strategies students can use to cope with school bullies:

  1. Stay Calm
  2. It's Ok to stand up for yourself
  3. It's Ok to keep thoughts to yourself
  4. Keep it safe

"She wanted to give kids a process to use when confronted by a bully," said Peggy Little, McKenna's mother. "She interviewed parents and worked with her teachers to conduct a survey of some kids in her school." Mckenna felt compelled to write her book when she noticed that her friends did not interact with bullies as well as she did.

"We are extremely proud of McKenna's accomplishment as an author," said Timothy Miller, school principal.

McKenna dedicated her book to her brother who is seven years younger than her and is diagnosed with autism. She hopes that through her book he will be able to handle any bully situation.

The official publication date for "How to C.O.O.K. a Bully" will be March 2009; however, the book is available online at www.HowToCookABully.com.
