Madison receives music equipment winnings
EVENT: Press Conference, school receives music equipment winnings
DATE: May 15
TIME: 3:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Courtyard, Madison High School, 5005 Stahl Rd.

Madison High School will receive $10,000 worth of musical equipment courtesy of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Gibson Guitar and Epiphone during a press conference on May 15, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the school. Seniors Ashley and Ashton Ruiz were named winners in the high school category in the TxDOT jingle contest, and won the school the reward of $10,000 in musical equipment.

The students are twins and wrote and recorded the jingle for the TxDOT contest, which was judged by the Texas Recording Academy (the Grammy's), ME TV of Austin, Epiphone and TxDOT. TxDOT will use the jingle to promote their campaign, "Put Texas in Your Corner," which gets Texans to register their vehicles.

In addition to a live performance from Ashley and Ashton (who perform under the name 2-Uneek), students at Madison will be treated to a live performance by Asylum Records recording artist Chingo Bling.

"Since my office is responsible for collecting vehicle registration fees, I've always been a big fan of this campaign's effort to educate Texans about the importance of vehicle registration," said Sylvia Romo, Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector. "And I am so proud that the winning high school is from San Antonio! It just reinforces what I've always known . . . Bexar County residents are the smartest and most talented people on Earth. Way to go, Ashley and Ashton!"
