The North East ISD Special Education department will host a fundraiser to benefit deaf and hard-of-hearing students on April 8, 2008 from 6-9 p.m. at the EZ's restaurant on 734 Bitters Rd. Those dining at the restaurant during that time, can drop off their receipt at the restaurant and 10 percent of sales will go toward NEISD students in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. The funds will help students attend the "Imagination Celebration," a fine arts festival for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
The "Imagination Celebration" offers students the opportunity to experience various forms of art in a hands-on festival where many of the professional artists are deaf themselves. Garner Middle School and MacArthur High School students will be able to do a hip-hop performance with the National Deaf Dance Troop perform a puppet show with puppets they made and work with make-up artists from Hollywood as they apply theatre makeup.
