Structure and Responsibilities:
The Facility Support Department is responsible for the efficient management, direction, and control of all labor efforts dedicated to the custodial care, maintenance, repair, modifications, and operation of all structures, installed equipment, and grounds.
- Facility Support consists of three different entities: Grounds, Building Trades, and Custodial Services. The department has 640 district employees; 1 Director for Facility Support, 3 General Foreman, 1 Staffing Specialist, and 2 Area Supervisors.
- The custodial aspect of the department consists of 570 custodians and 2 area supervisors.
- Building Trades has 33 skilled technicians which include: Carpenters, Glazier, Locksmiths, Hardware, Painters, and Masons.
- Grounds has 28 workers whose responsibilities are grounds maintenance, tree trimming, pest control, welding, fence building, and general grounds repair.
What We Do:
We are responsible for all aspects of management within the Facility Support Department, assuring all facilities are clean, sanitary and conductive to exemplary working and learning conditions.
- Provide custodial and maintenance services to more than 60 educational facilities, numerous administrative facilities, consisting of over 9 million square feet of space and servicing more than 60,000 students.
- Interact and provide technical consulting services to campus administrators on all issues relating to building trades, grounds, and custodial care of all district owned facilities.
- Inspect and maintain all custodial and maintenance equipment owned by the district.
- Provide training and management for custodial concerns throughout the district.
The Director of facility support establishes the baseline and standards of quality for which custodial services are measured consistently throughout the district. There are eleven (11) major elements to the quality assessment that are objectively evaluated. The campus custodial staff is provided the criteria well in advance of the assessment and encouraged to perform self evaluations. On the date of the evaluation, the campus administrators and custodians are welcome to participate in the assessment of their facilities.
