Email Partners

If you are interested in finding e-mail partners for your beginning German classes a good place to look is: http://www.bild-online.dk/
You can sign up your classes or search for a partner.  I can highly  recommend this program, which also has materials available to help teachers get started.  The main advantage of the program is that it joins students learning German in different countries of the world. Your students do not have to be shy when they don't know much German.  They learn while they are writing. This is also good for junior high school classes.  The target ages are 10-15, but some schools have older students. All correspondence should be in German, because it is a language learning program. I have used partners from this program for three years and plan to do this again. It makes it more fun to write about your school, family, etc. when you send this to someone other than your teacher.

Email partnership
You can go to the AATG web site (http://www.aatg.org/) click on teaching  resources, then click on web resources at the bottom, then click on  teaching with technology and you will find a group of sources for email  partnerships.  There are many, many schools looking for the age group  you mention.

  Culture Watch: Germany WallArt

1.What was the Berlin Wall? When did it collapse? How did it become a wall of art? What is the East Side Gallery?  Why are the wall and its art in danger of extinction?

2.What are workers currently doing to the remaining portion  of the Wall? Why are artists trying to recreate what was on the Wall in 1989? Why do some think it's a mistake to start from scratch? How is the artists' project being  funded? Why do the artists want the East Side Gallery to  be declared a World Heritage site? Do you think it should be given this designation? Why or why not?

3.The Berlin Wall was once a hated symbol of oppression,  and a very real physical structure separating millions from  freedom. In this video it is referred to as "a huge historical  canvas." Ask students to consider what this means. Challenge students, working in groups, to find other    examples of "historical canvasses" around the world. Share groups' findings and discuss the historical  significance of each, as well as its cultural relevance. Refer   back to the video: What does the art and graffiti on what  remains of the Berlin Wall tell us? If left for future generations, how would it become a part of the Wall's  history?
