Lopez Middle School honored retired Master Sergeant Jose M. Lopez, the school's namesake, at its dedication ceremony on Sunday, October 21, 2007. Lopez received the Medal of Honor for his valiant efforts in single-handedly deterring a German infantry attack during the Battle of the Bulge. Members of the Lopez family attended the ceremony.
