The NEISD Board of Trustees honored Representative Dan Branch (District 108 - Dallas) with the "Outstanding Graduate Award" on August 13, 2007 for his significant contribution toward the betterment of Texas. Rep. Branch attended Serna Elementary School, Garner Middle School and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1976. Branch's mother, Mrs. Sylvia Branch, was also awarded the "Distinguished Partner in Education Award" for her many years of volunteer service to NEISD. Rep. Branch was elected in 2002 to his current position as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. Branch serves on the House Appropriations, Calendars and Public Education Committees and was recently appointed Chairman of the House Select Committee on Higher and Public Education Finance. In addition, Branch was a primary author of the landmark 2006 school finance reform and property tax reduction laws.
