To promote wellness and awareness for diabetes, West Avenue Elementary School welcomed students and their families to its Open Gym Night and Walk on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. The school's Walk for Diabetes route took parents around the school. Representatives from the American Diabetes Association and North East ISD Nutrition Department also attended the walk. Prior to the walk, students and staff collected $800 to benefit diabetes research.
