The Parent Involvement Program at Serna Elementary is hosting it's 5th annual "Heart Healthy Cooking Class". Classes are taught by H-E-B's Chef Rosie, who is a nutrition specialist seen regularly on local television. Parents are invited to attend live demonstrations on how to prepare nutritionally balanced meals. Emphasis is placed on heart-healthy dinners prepared quickly, using simple ingredients. There is also a segment on cooking for diabetics.
“Chef Rosie’s goal is to put together recipe techniques to help make cooking easier for our parents,” said, Alicia Walker, Serna family specialist. Parents sample all meals, take home printed recipes, H-E-B publications and coupons. “These are some of our most popular parent education sessions, a segment on Safety, Health and Nutrition, from our Parent Academy here at Serna,” states Jeff Price, principal.
Two classes are scheduled for on Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Family Center at Serna Elementary.
